where we are?
keurgumak: in wolof, the big house where the whole family gathers. keurgumak petite côte is a big and peaceful house built with earth-bags in a forest near the traditional serere farming village of thiafoura, in the thies region, mbour department, at the doorway to the nature reserve of somone’s salt lagoon.
keurgumak is built next to a beautiful mango field surrounded by dozens of moringa trees.
we have half a hectare of agricultural land with two mango trees, a borassus palm, a kad, and a soump (local fruit trees).
we also planted several local and tropical fruit trees, especially mango and moringa, as well as soursop, papaya, lemons, african carob, african grape, passion fruit, coconut and banana. the whole garden is inspired by permaculture, as is the vegetable garden.
it is a fantastic natural space for children, where you can find dogs, cats, chickens, roosters, ducks with their babies, and a privileged passage for monkeys and birds of all colors, surrounded by pastures for horses, donkeys and cows.
the house is autonomous in terms of energy resources: solar panels, well water and septic tank. we also recycle on site the water and the paper waste as well as the organic remains
